The Velvet and Silk Cafe

The Velvet and Silk Café was a series of exhibitions created by Mies Van Der Rohe and Lilly Reich in the 1920’s, to share modernist design with the general public: to create interest and excitement for this new ethos within each city in which they exhibited. The first of the series was held in Berlin in 1927. Taking inspiration from Mies and Lilly, The Velvet and Silk Cafe is organising a series of presentations by and for architects and designers based in Glasgow.

Gordon Murray Architects hosts The Velvet and Silk Cafe

Speakers will discuss a project, product or subject of their choice for around 5 minutes with time for questions or discussion afterwards. The past year has been tough for many involved in the architecture and design industries and so this evening is designed as a little well deserved light relief!

The first evening hosts presentations by cameronwebster, Collective Architecture, GOODD, Gordon Murray, NORD Architecture and Timorous Beasties. There will also be a small exhibition of work from several Glasgow based photographers and artists.

Sounds like an inspired evening, wish i had been able to attend. Look forward to the next one. By the way has anyone read the novel, "The Glass House" by Simon Mawer - great fictional book which also brings in examples of architect Albert Loos philosophy "decoration is a crime". Great read.
